Estonian exposition at Venice Biennial of Architecture

12.09.2008 - 23.11.2008

The Estonian exposition “Gas Pipeline” (“Gaasitoru”) will be opened at 15.30 in Giardini Park in the old national pavilion area as part of the Venice Biennial of Architecture. Along one of the main pedestrian pathways, between the Russian and German pavilions, is situated a 63-meter-long, true-scale section of a gas pipeline.
The inspiration for the project is the plan to lay the Russia-Germany pipeline “Nord Stream” in the Baltic Sea. “Gas Pipeline”, located in one of the most-visited areas of Giardini Park, is a simultaneously massive yet palpable sculptural object, which will create an unexpected physical experience for the viewer. It is both abstract and acutely concrete, forcing the viewer to stop, relate, and adopt a point of view.
